Where is Hemel Hempstead?

map of the UK Hemel Hempstead lies in the borough of Dacorum, which covers most of the old Hundred of Dacorum in west Hertfordshire. It sits on the chalk foothills of the Chiltern Hills, and through its valley runs the river Gade. The river Bulbourne meets the Gade at Two Waters (how did they decide on that name?!) Since the Grand Union Canal and the A41 also go through Two Waters, perhaps it should be renamed Three Waters and a Trunk Road! The intersection of the M1 and the M25 motorway is just south of M1 J8 (the Hemel Hempstead turn off). To find out about the communities in Hertfordshire or further afield visit find-our-community.net.

local map By rail Hemel is on the main line between London Euston and Rugby. Known as the Northampton line it has good links to the Midlands and the North. London Midland trains run about every 20 minutes, journeytime about 25 mins.
From the major airports a bus service called "jetlink" runs from Gatwick via Heathrow & Luton airports to Hemel Hempstead, every hour or so. For more information, visit the National Express website and put your destinations in the journey planner. For Hertfordshire bus and train information phone the Intalink traveline on 0870 608 2608.

If you're not in a hurry you can always hire a narrowboat and go on a pub crawl along the Grand Union Canal. There are numerous pubs along the canalside.

So Hemel Hempstead is a really easy place to get to, and once there you'll find plenty to do.
