Hoping to find some help..... my father has alzheimers and drove to Hemel Hempstead some three four weeks ago and unfortunately he lost his car .. far fetched your thinking well no its very true ... I am trying to locate the car. Could anyone possible help .. or could it be parked outside your house? Its a red Kia Picanto bog standard registration no. YY05 DBX . I need to get the car back so any information as to its whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. The car is reported missing to the police but they said there hands are tied as it has not been stolen so it will just sit in its current location until the tax runs out . Not really a good scenario.
He has no idea where he left it and cannot recall any more information ... we had reported my father missing and he was found approximately a mile and half from hemel hempstead police station but there was no sign of his car. Any suggestions as to a solution to my problem I live in Hull East Yorkshire so a trip to search every street to locate the car is out of the question and I am his sole carer.

Hiya I lived in Hemel from 66-79 in which time I was living at the bottom of Shendish Drive, I played drums in the area with a band called the DOMMINOS, I also joined the 5th Royal Anglian TA from which I then left to join the regs and ended up in the Grenadier Guards. On my return I then joined the Hertfordshire Constabulary. Then in 79 I was offered the chance to play drums with an old 60s artist by the name of jimmy crawford, of which I will always be grateful, because in 1987 I was hit by a lorry and paralized from the neck down. However I am now up and about and would like to hear from anyone that might remember me. I now live in Norfolk so if anyone is coming this way on holiday you would be more than welcome to call in and give me all the goss, please get in touch.

Further to my old mate Steve Snelling follow up to Mark's reply to Alan original question, I once saw a full list at the Pavillions former office across the road from the Town Hall but I think this was demolished long before the Pav itself so who knows where it went to. I am sure someone knows it's fate. The Specials, Selecter and Dexy's Midnight Runners Gig was f*ck*ng brilliant and took place on the 28 November 1979. Further to the Gigs already mentioned I would add Madness & The VIPs on the 13 December 1979, The Selecter (again), Holly & The Italians and The Bodysnatchers on the 28 February 1980, Stiff Little Fingers, Another Pretty Face (pre-Waterboys Mike Scott Band) on the 20 March 1980, UB40 and Honey Bane & The Fatal Microbes on the5 June 1980, Anorexia (Watford Band) on the 7 September 1980 and the UK Subs & The Citizens on the 12 November 1980. That's all I can remember for now but there are loads & loads more. Like Mark I also done humping for bands (some sort of punishment repaying my debt to society) and likewise had to watch the gigs free of charge and met loads of my heroes while I was at it, Madness, Elvis Costello, U2 etc.

Our family, the Smiley's, lived at 40 Ellingham Road from 1968-1971, next to Mrs. Rice's house, by the alleyway. In September 1971 we emigrated to Australia. My father Phil worked at Texaco. My mother was Norma. Brother Russell and I went to Maylands JMI in Adeyfield Road, and sister Jackie attended Grove Hill ( I think it was). I am trying to find any trace of my best friend Helen George who lived at the other end of the same road. Helen's father Thomas, was our local GP, her mother was Kirsty and her brother Thomas. They moved to Stevenage within a year or so of us leaving Hemel. I established contact with Helen circa 1985, but lost contact since. We moved to Hemel a year ago and in the communal gardens of our house at the back of the Old Town High Street there is a collection of grave stones. We were wondering if they were something to do with St. Marys church, if it used to be a graveyard, and if so when its use was discontinued. Also where we would get some more information about this? If anyone has any info or could point us in the right direction we would really appriciate it! Thanks in anticipation.

I am looking for information on the Foster's of Piccotts End. My mum lived there until she became a war bride and moved to the states. Most of her generation have died and we are trying to find information on her parents, grandparents, etc. Her memories are somewhat confused as she was brought up with aunts and uncles as sisters and brothers. Any information would be appreciated.

Our daughter-in-law came to live here in December 2005 from Sierra Leone. Is there a Sierra-Leone ex-pat community in Hemel or the surrounding area? She is naturally missing her family and friends and it would be great if she could link up with anybody from Sierra Leone who is also an 'alien' in Hemel Hempstead.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there isn't a formal society, perhaps other visitors to the site could come up with some contacts on an informal basis?

Does anyone else remember the great myths about these sinister provincial Hemel gangs known only as "the Highfield", "the Adeyfield" etc? Did these gangs exist in anything other than Hemel's collective imagination and, if so, is there anyone out there who would confess to being a former member or knowing someone who was? And does anyone remember the piece of graffiti on the fence behind the Leverstock Green shops about "Levy Boys" being the hardest (bit far-fetched, that one!)? Who were these mystical figures and where are they now?
