I trying to find out about an article which was in a news paper, headlined "the face of ulster 1978", the article was about a friend of mine who's name is Shawn Brooks, the picture was on the front page of I belive the evening echo. I'm sure the reporter's first name was David but can't be certain of this. The picture was reference to an explosion in northern ireland in 1978, where my friend's (Shawn Brook's) commanding officer Paul Currell suffered severe injuries. I have looked high and low over the internet to no avail please can anyone help in locating the paper and the said article.

Hello. Does any one know, who was the postmaster in Hemel in the late 40s early 50s? My husbands brother was adopted by the postmaster, we think. We don't know the year. My husband, Geoff was born in 1948, so it will be 2 years either side of that.

Message In reply to Alan's enquiry of 20 November - I used to work at the Pavilion for a few years and worked occasionally as a 'humper' for bands playing there. This basically involved helping to unload the trucks at the back door and shifting the gear up in the lift and help setting up on stage; and vice versa afterwards. The best part was getting free entry to the gig and possibly meeting someone famous! In no particular order, some of the bands I saw and worked for include: Rick Wakeman, Eric Clapton (with Elkie Brooks on backing vocals) - not invitation only - I remember a friend's brother camping out overnight to get the first ticket and being pictured on the Evening Echo front page; Wishbone Ash, Steve Hackett, The Damned, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Buzzcocks, Elvis Costello (with Nick Lowe on bass); The Undertones, Boomtown Rats, Stiff Little Fingers, U2, The Motors, Radio Stars, Madness, Bad Manners, The Selecter, Talking Heads (filmed for the Old Grey Whistle Test); the Live Stiffs Tour featuring Rachel Sweet, Lene Lovich, Wreckless Eric, Mickey Jupp and Ian Dury - with special guest Elton John (his first public appearance after his hair transplant!); plus metal bands UFO and Saxon. There must be loads more - the stairs back stage had posters all over the walls for the bands and artists who played there.

Don't know if anyone can help me. I am doing some family history research, trying to find a cousin, and have tracked down an entry in Deaths 1st quarter, 1963 for Harry Harvey aged 75 who died in Hemel Hempstead. Is there a family history society in Hemel Hempstead, or can I contact anyone at the local cemeteries? Harry was probably Church of England religion and was born in Hendon, Middlesex, but the age is exactly right. Quite difficult finding information in England from Australia, even though the search sites are excellent. Harry was my grandmother's cousin. His full name was Harry Elliot Harvey and he was born on 27th October, 1887. Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.

I was hoping someone could help me track down Peter Wilkins or Justine Bloomfield. I met up with them in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan in the mid 90's while they were touring across Canada. They had stayed in my parents campground which is where I met them. Corresponded a few times via mail, but lost their address... tried to call various "wilkins" in the UK (I believe they reside in Hemel Hempstead) but never met with any luck. If anyone would happen to know them (or of them) or, could even do me the favour of pointing me to where it would be best to look for them - I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Hemel area musicians may be interested to hear that a friend of mine has just launched a new web site and I am giving him some free plugs because I think it's a really cool idea. Basically the site offers several optional package deals of CD pressing, distribution (record shops, download sites, online stores), plugging and promo (radio, TV, press, other media), collection of sales revenues etc. at seriously low prices, taking advantage of his own contacts as he is also a musician. Everything is set up on line and you can pay by credit card if you want the option of spreading the repayments out. It's a genuine opportunity for bands to release their music with a proper route into the record stores, download sites and onto radio, pres etc. without spending a fortune. Anyway, check it out. The URL is http://www.put-a-record-out.com.

I have been researching my family history in and around Hemel for a few years now. Having posted many messages on numerous Sites on the Net, I have gained alot of information and some excellent contacts. If you have connections to the following names in Hemel, and you are researching your family history, please contact me: Any connections to surname of Hosier or Howard; Sophia Hall; James Dell; George Thorn. Also very interested, if you have connections to the area of: Cherry Bounce, from the 1700's to 1900's. Do you have any 'family genealogy information' you can share? Do you have any other Hemel surnames you can give, I have hundreds of names connected to Hemel in my tree.

Looking for Ann Daldy, sister of Ken, lived in Puller Road Boxmoor (19 I think), used to hang out with Jackie Gurney (found) June Bisley, Terry Pickett and David Bailey. Last heard of, she married a soldier and moved to Germany, apparently has a son in Hemel. Any info would be greatly appreciated. David Bailey formerly of the Sun Inn 81 High Street, Hemel Hempstead and Corner Hall Secondary Modern Boys School. Thanks.
