Attention Suzan Burrows (and anyone interested in hemel history ). The name of the pub that had the tunnel under the Old High Street to the church was the Royal Oak, it was formally the house of correction and was the last pub on the right past the Old Bell. I was a cab driver in Hemel from 1960 to 1980 and was a friend of the licencees son. We used to go down into the tunnel to explore, though it had been sealed of at the church end it still had a peculiar atmosphere as though ghosts of the past were watching us

Grew up in Hemel, born 1960. Went to Maylands primary school in Adeyfield, then onto Grove Hill when it became a secondry school (what were they thinking?) left in '76. Played footy for Leverstock Green, the Venture on sundays. Drank in the White Horse and Venture, and could usually be found in a near coma on any given Sat night down at Scamps. Now live in the States and was wondering if anyone knew of any Grove Hill reunions, not that they'd let me near the place today. I beleive a girl by the name of Susan Dibbon - or something like that ran one before.

This is a plea for help. How many of you used Dacorum College either when you were at Halsey, at a later date or even currently? Well the College could use your help, as it is now under threat! Let me put you in the picture! In 1992 Dacorum College merged with the Watford Colleges to form West Herts College. Since that time Dacorum has been slowly run down as the debts of the combined college have increased. Many very popular and financially successful courses were moved to Watford. What has emerged recently, as you may have seen on the front of the Gazette last week, is that all courses for 16 to 19 year old students and all full time courses are moving to Watford, leaving the Borough of Dacorum with just a shell of a college. The prime motivation for this move, it would appear, is financial. The management of the college are in the process of selling the area of land where the student wing and engineering block now stand, for the construction of 840 housing units. All of the proceeds of this sale will go to financing the managements debts and investment in the Watford Colleges. I'm sure lots more information will emerge over the next few weeks and I will keep you posted. In the meantime please make your feelings known about the value of the college to our town, to both the Principal - Andrew Bragg (a.c.bragg@westherts.ac.uk) and your local MP Tony McWalter (www.tonymcwaltermp.org.uk). Tony McWalter will be setting up a link on his web site during the coming week. He would like to hear from all concerned, but especially current students for whom the move to Watford would cause them difficulties. eg. child care, work, financial etc. We must act NOW as this is another step on the road to becoming a dormitory town of Watford.

My great grandfather was Charles Augustus Leveson, Vicar of St. Mary's at the turn of the 19th. century. I am trying to discover as much as possible about him and his parents, Henry and Cecilia. Any information as to his period of tenure, anecdotes, or the address of any person who might have, or have access to, special knowledge would be much appreciated. Okay so this a shameless plug but I thought anyone who remembers me, Darren Hillier and/or MSQ might be interested to know that me and Daz are both on a new album by UK Soul artist Kevin East, released on Ravensbourne Records (www.ravensbourne.com). You can log on using that domain name or www.kevineast.com and listen to free MP3 clips of 5 of the songs plus a 30-second radio ad. You can also read lots of info if you are into that sort of thing. Local musicians may also want to take note that the label is looking for suitable acts for a variety of forthcoming projects too. The opening track from the Kevin East album has picked up airplay on 12 radio stations so far and is released worldwide (i.e. available from shops) on 3 February 2003 but you can actually buy it a lot cheaper now on-line. Anyway, there you go. The Hemel music scene of the 80s/90s lives on!
