After School Clubs

After School Club, London Road
As confirmed by our recent OFSTED inspection a well established club (since 1994) providing quality after school care. The club is open to children aged rising 5 to 11 from any school in Hemel. We do have a coach which picks up from Two Waters, Pixies Hill and Chaulden schools. Based on the London Road not far from the railway station. Munchkids After School and Holiday Club
Munchkids is a well established Ofsted registered after school and holiday club for children aged between 5-13 years old at South Hill School, Heath Lane, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1TT. We operate every week of the year. In term time we pick children up from Boxmoor Schools and care for them up to either 5.15pm to 6pm. In the school holidays we are open from 8.30am - 5.30pm. During the Easter and Summer holidays we open a second club for the over 8's only. We offer a range of activities including arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor play, group games and competitions. Animals

Dacorum Animal Rights Group
We hold a regular stall on the Marlowes side of Bank Court on the last Saturday of each month, plus run a regular newsletter of local and national events. Whenever possible we also coordinate lifts for individuals wishing to attend these events.

Art

Hemel Hempstead Art Society
We meet every Tuesday evening from 8 - 10pm in central Hemel Hempstead, for a varied programme of lectures, demonstrations and life model sessions. These alternate with project meetings when in-hand work, or subjects arranged by the committee, can be carried out in the friendly atmosphere of like-minded amateur artists. Annual subscriptions are £12 payable at the AGM in March and weekly fees vary according to the activity involved.

Athletics

Dacorum and Tring Athletics Club
We are a friendly athletics club, with members of all ages competing in cross country, track and field and road races. Competition is supplied at all levels, accepting membership from both male and female athletes from the age of 10 upwards. Badmintonians Badminton Club
Badmintonians are located in Hemel Hempstead with a number of teams competing in local leagues in the South West Herts area. We aim to have about 24 members with broadly equal numbers of lady and men players. Summer Club is an ideal time to play yourself in. This club is open to all and help will be given to the more novice players if required but you should note that membership of the Summer Club does not give automatic entry to the Winter Club. Membership of the Winter Club, when the league matches are played, can only be gained with the approval of the membership committee. Newcomers (of an appropriate standard) in winter will be invited to join in club play for a maximum of 3 nights, after which permanent membership will be considered
We have a special need for lady players of league standard and can guarantee league play for those of appropriate ability. Call us now if you are interested.

Gadebridge Badminton Club
Gadebridge Badminton club is a friendly, sociable but competitive club based at Lockers Park School, just a few minutes from Hemel Sports centre, playing in the South West Herts league. Club nights are on Mondays 2000 - 2200hrs. We welcome league standard players and currently run a Mens, Ladies and 3 Mixed teams.

Grovehilldocra
Grovehilldocra is a Residents Association and community goup in the Grovehill area of Hemel Hempstead. We have been established for over two years, and started Grovehill DOC (developing our community ) Residents association to represent tenants of William Sutton Housing association, but we now undertake community based activities and projects in the whole of Grovehill and work closely with other groups in the Hemel Hempstead Area.

Greenhills Singers
6 - 12 strong choir singing part-songs, sacred music, madrigals, etc, for pleasure, social events, church services, concerts and special occasions. New members welcome. Meetings are held in Hemel Hempstead on Wednesdays 8pm-9.30pm.

Just Acappella
We are a mixed singing group(Soprano/Alto/Tenor/bass) of around 20 men and women. We meet at Leverstock Green Village hall every Monday evening at 8pm. Our singers have varied singing backgrounds from different types of choral groups, but all have an interest in Acappella unaccompanied singing. We sing a variety of music some Doo-wop, someGospel, some swing and Jazz style pieces, plus items from the thirties era. The group is available to sing at performances, both paid and charitable.

Crafty Chatter
Crafty Chatter is for people who enjoy doing arts & crafts but don't always have the inclination to do them at home alone. So if you enjoy arts & crafts and would like to get together with like minded people, pass on skills, make friends then bring your craft and join us every other Wednesday at Warners End Community Centre, Hemel Hempstead, between 7-10pm £2.

The Salvation Army Craft Club
For all those budding "Changing Rooms" and "House Invaders" fans! Learn how to spruce up those old items around the house and turn them into something beautiful! The club is running on the 2nd Monday in the month at 7.45pm at The Salvation Army in Waterhouse Street.

Hemel Hempstead Folk Dance Club
We meet every Friday evening during school terms at 8.15 p.m. We are a small, friendly group of folk dancers who enjoy dancing principally English dances. Come and learn some of the dances you see in costume dramas on TV. We meet at Bourne Methodist Church Hall on the corner of Northridge Way and Ashtree Way.

Life and Soul Academy
The Life and Soul Academy in Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead, opens to the community on the weekend of the 15/16th September 2007. There is something for everyone at the Life and Soul Academy for children and adults of all ages and abilities. It really is going to be the Life and Soul of the local community. Every Wednesday, starting on 10th September 2003 (after moving from Kings Langley). Two Salsa Classes at 8.00pm, one for Beginners; the other for Improvers. Followed by dancing until 11.00. Exchange Trading

HempLETS Group
The Local Exchange Trading System for Hemel Hempstead and surrounding areas. It is a community based, non-profit group whose members trade goods & services without using cash. HempLETS follows the well practised principles of Local Exchange and Trading Systems (LETS), which is based on the theory that everybody has something to offer. Within HempLETS, all transactions between members are paid for using an alternative currency: Hemps.
This friendly gathering happens every month. The idea behind having regular meetings is to enable any HempLETS member to trade in an informal social atmosphere where they can meet other HempLETS members and refreshments are always available. Boxmoor and District Angling Society
The "BDAS" is a Fishing club which has 6 fishing venues around Hemel Hempstead. There are about 300 members but I have never seen more than a dozen or so members fishing at any one time so you can always guarantee a peaceful and relaxing time catching some lovely fish. We always welcome new members and membership forms are held by local fishing tackle shops.

Based in South Hertfordshire between Watford and Hemel Hempstead, the club has been going for about 9 years. It is only since 1999 that the club has been called Acorn Raiders, as previously it was know as Raiders United. The change came about when the club found a base at the Bricketwood Sports and Social Club, sometimes know as the Acorn Club. Majorettes troop in Hemel. We currently have 45 girls who train on Wed evenings at Hemel School. Under 8's 6.30-7.30pm and 8 and over 7.30-9.30pm and also on Sat 9.30-12.30pm during winter season. During summer we perform at fetes and carnivals.

Movie Making

Hemel Hempstead Movie Makers
We have been in existence since the late 1950s. Originally all the work was done on film, but as technology has become available for video production, and home computers provide excellent editing capabilities, most of our members use a camcorder and a PC. We welcome everyone with an interest in making movies of all types - documentaries, drama, animation, travelogues, and community events. The club co-operates with local organisations working together to produce first class videos of local events.
We meet at the Carey Baptist Church, Marlowes, in the town centre, every first and third Wednesday at 8 p.m. prompt during the season which goes from September to June. Just turn up if you are interested.

Samba
Sambuka are a community-based percussion band specialising in Samba - the carnival music of Brazil. We meet on Mondays from 7-10pm at the Boxmoor Arts Centre, close to the "magic roundabout". Orienteering

Hertfordshire Orienteering Club (aka Happy Herts)
Orienteering is a sport in which you navigate your way around a course between features, (control points) marked on a special coloured map. You can walk or run at your own pace through forests, on commons and parkland, wherever events are organised. Courses vary in length between about 15 km for children and beginners to over 10 km for experienced orienteers. HHOC will be running a Saturday Series for beginners - probably starting in Autumn 2001.

Chatterboxbabies baby-signing group - Babies 6-30 months
A fun and friendly group learning baby sign-language through songs, stories and play. Half an hour of signing activities and half an hour of play for babies and socialising for grown-ups. This group is designed to help babies to communicate before speech, enhance parent/child bond and support speech and language development. Classes run by an experienced professional, qualified in speech and language and British Sign Language. Meet at Bedmond Village Hall on Tuesday mornings.

Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society
The society is over 50 years old, and we are seeing second and third generation members of the performing families taking their places, and their have been many relationships, marriages and families formed through the society. These close ties have always made our group a fun and friendly experience, and new members are always welcome. Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company - At The Boxmoor Playhouse
The Hemel Hempstead Theatre Company is an amateur society performing 4/5 productions annually - musicals, light operas, pantomimes, a variety of comedies, serious dramas, thrillers etc. We own and manage our own theatre in Boxmoor (The Boxmoor Playhouse - formerly St John's Hall). Members are encouraged to be involved in all aspects of running a theatre - as well as acting, dancing, singing, directing, stage managing, scenery building and painting, makeup, costume! Volunteers also maintain the hall, run the bar, sell programmes and ice creams at performances... In fact many of our members never appear on stage at all! We also have a Youth Group for 11-18 year olds.
We have a club evening on Thursdays at 7.45pm when our very reasonably priced bar is open. Come along one Thursday, see a rehearsal in progress, have a drink and meet us!

The Revue Variety Company
We are called The Revue Variety Company, and started in 1956 performing our own variety shows for one week in April and November every year. They are basically colourful entertainment consisting of singing, dancing and comedy sketches. Starstruck Production School
We teach all three of the main disciplines within the Performing Arts: Dance, Singing and Drama to varying standards whilst encouraging and nurturing each student's abilities and talents. Hemel Theatretrain
Performing Arts School for 6-18 year olds. There are 3 age groups, 6-9, 10-12 and 13-18. Theatretrain have an open door policy for all children so ability is not essential. Every one takes part in an hour of singing, dance and drama. Enthusiasm, commitment and having fun are a priority. All pupils take part in a show either locally or in a West End theatre. Chiltern IVC Social Club
Join the UK's leading social events club for meals out, parties, dancing, walks, pub evenings, badminton, weekends away and theatre trips. Chiltern IVC was formed in January 1995 by a group of older Herts and Beds IVC members to cater for the over 35 age group. It was intended to be a natural progression from the Herts and Beds club which had always sought to cater for younger people. Chiltern IVC is not a Dating Agency, and is not run for profit! We are a friendly and informal club for both single people and couples offering a variety of social and cultural activities for graduates, professionals and like-minded people. Parkinson's Disease Society, West Hertfordshire branch
The branch exists to offer support to those with Parkinson's disease and their carers and covers all Dacorum as well as Watford and St Albans. We have a monthly meeting in Watford at St Thomas' Church, Langley Road, Watford. We also have outings, a branch holiday, pub lunches, a quarterly newsletter and a year book.

Fifolits Swimmming and Life Saving Club
The club was started in 1992 as we felt that there was a need for a grass roots club in Hemel Hempstead that was small enough to be friendly and inclusive. The club still continues the same philosophy of being friendly and accepting all levels of swimming ability. We still have some of the founder members with us and our members ages range from eight to retirement age. The club name derives from the phrase Fit For Life Through Swimming.

Minibuses available for hire to groups with members in the Dacorum area who are concerned with the welfare of elderly or young people, or people with disabilities. The Dacorum Talking Newspaper for the Blind
We are a registered charity, delivering an hour of the current week's local news, on tape, every week to the visually impaired citizens of Dacorum, who are unable to read the local paper. Additionally, a quarterly magazine is issued, giving listeners more in depth information or articles than is possible on the weekly C60 tapes. New listeners receive an introductory tape which includes the history of The Dacorum Talking Newspaper. Also available is an information tape which includes (in alphabetical order) details of the majority of local services and amenities, e.g. Dial a Ride, Social Services, etc., what's on entertainment and lighting up times. This is a free service, funded by charitable donations with a circulation of 250.

The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home - Hemel Hempstead Fundraising Group
We support the work of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home nurses who offer 24/7 paliative care to terminal patients of all ages in their homes throughout the Dacorum area, after referral by their local GP. We have regular committee meetings and arrange a wide variety of fund raising events to help support this important work.

Walking

Single File Walking Club
Single File is a non-profit making walking club. Walks are organised by members for the members and cover Herts, Beds and Bucks. Each walks costs £1.00 and there is no membership fee. Walks are usually 5-6 miles and now and again we do longer walks of 8 miles or more. In addition to our regular walks we also do some social events. All walks start at 11am prompt, unless otherwise stated. Long walks usually start at 10:30am prompt.

Youth Clubs

B:SIDE Youth Club
'B:SIDE' is the weekly event held on Friday nights in 'The Works. 'Haven House, 389 London Road. This is a social event open to all young people of secondary school age. From 7.30pm - 10.00pm we are open to everyone from Year 7 upwards. Then from 10.00pm - 11.30pm only those of Year 11 or above can stay for a late session. The event is run by young people for young people. The music is a mixture of the best from christian and mainstream artists, and the bar sells soft drinks and sweets. The atmosphere is informal and people come to use the facilities and simply hang out with their friends. As the name suggests it is meant to be the alternative track. The one aim of the leaders is relationship building. This, and general overseeing, is really the only part played by adults on a B:Side night.
